Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene defended the arrest of former CNN host Don Lemon Friday in connection to his protection of an anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) protest that disrupted a Minnesota church service.
“I don’t assume that’s journalism. That’s not [the] First Modification,” Greene stated of Lemon’s involvement Friday on “Actual Time with Invoice Maher.”
On Friday, federal brokers arrested Lemon and charged him with civil rights crimes, together with conspiracy to deprive civil rights and interfering with spiritual freedom.
Lemon livestreamed left-wing agitators who stormed St. Paul’s Cities Church on Jan. 18 underneath the suspicion that its pastor had collaborated with ICE.
Greene seemed to be the only defender of Lemon’s arrest on HBO’s late-night panel.
“It’s not good to arrest [Lemon],” Maher stated.
The previous congresswoman pushed again on Maher’s argument, citing the federal regulation that protects spiritual train at locations of worship.
“Properly, I’m going to say he violated the FACE Act,” Greene countered. “He went right into a church, disrupted their worship after which later in an interview in contrast them to White supremacists.”
“That’s not journalism,” Greene asserted. “That’s activism.”
“However does it warrant getting arrested?” Maher requested.
Greene went on to argue that Lemon joined “activists” in “harassing folks” in the course of church, upsetting kids to cry.
In the meantime, Greene’s fellow panelist and MS NOW co-host Joe Scarborough discovered no fault with Lemon being “aggressive” in his reporting.
“I feel there needs to be form of a differentiation between if any individual’s getting in there and saying, ‘I’m not with them, can I ask you some questions?’”
“Since you’re going to have embeds in conflict, you’re going to have embeds in protests,” Scarborough continued.
He went on to say Lemon’s arrest was supposed by the Trump administration to “scare” different journalists.
On Jan. 19, Lemon provided his group’s clarification for a way he turned “the face” of anti-ICE protests in Minnesota.
“My producers stated, ‘Don, you’re a homosexual, Black man in America. And you’ve got a platform, and also you’re the most important identify,’” Lemon stated on Jennifer Welch’s “I’ve Had It” podcast.
He went on to blast “racist, bigoted homophobes” for singling him out after overlaying the protest in Cities Church.
“After all you’re going to be the person who they single out, they usually’re gonna make the headline as a result of it performs to their base, and their base is filled with racist, bigoted homophobes like Nicki Minaj, by the best way,” Lemon added.
The previous CNN host was launched with out bond and is scheduled to seem in federal courtroom in Minneapolis on Feb. 9.
